Fall 2016: Classes for All Ages
Sewing and knitting classes are
held at SewGreen, 112 North Cayuga
Street in downtown Ithaca. In most cases, all materials are supplied. Most projects are gender-neutral. Men and boys are always welcome in our classes.
Pre-registration and
pre-payment are required. Scholarships are available for children and
youth, based on household income. Ask us for an application form.

KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS
LEARN THE BASICS - Three-part class, 6:30 to 8 pm
Learn to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off. To start, yarn and needles are provided. We'll share tips on what kinds of yarn are best for various projects and get you launched on your own explorations. Appropriate for everyone age 13 to grown-up. $60 covers it!

TWO WAYS TO KNIT A HAT
SKILLBUILDER - Three-part class, 6:30 to 8 pm
Learn two different techniques for making a warm hat. For anyone, age 13 to grown-up, who already knows how to knit and purl. $60 covers it, but you will want to bring your own circular needles and yarn. We'll send you a supply list. Registered students get a 20% off coupon for yarn or needles purchased at SewGreen.

KNIT NIGHT
FREE GET-TOGETHER - Wednesdays, 6:30 to 8 pm
Join us for knitting and crocheting in good company. Tips and talk are free!

BASIC MACHINE SEWING
FOR ADULT BEGINNERS - Three-part class, 6:30 to 8 pm
Learn to use a sewing machine and make three simple projects: a tote bag, a bib apron with a pocket, and a small stuffed chicken (cuteness guaranteed). Appropriate for everyone age 13 to grown-up. Materials and machine supplied. $75 covers it!

INTRO TO QUILTING
PATCHWORK FOR BEGINNERS - Four-part class, 6:30 to 8 pm
Learn or review the basics of machine sewing and make a small quilt.You'll learn to plan your design; measure, cut, and sew the pieces; and add batting and backing. At the end of this class, you will have the skills to make your own quilt. Appropriate for everyone age 13 to grown-up. Materials and machine supplied. $90 covers it!

SEW YOUR OWN T-SHIRT
SKILLBUILDER - Four-part class, 6:30 to 8 pm
For people who have already taken our Basic Machine Sewing class or other beginner class. Learn to take measurements, read and put together a PDF pattern, and get comfortable sewing jersey knit fabric. We'll also share tips for alterations such as lengthening or shortening sleeves and adding length to create a dress or tunic. Appropriate for everyone age 13 to grown-up. Materials and machine supplied. $90 covers it!

HOW TO READ & USE A PATTERN
SKILLBUILDER - Three-part class, 6:30 to 8 pm
For people who have already taken our Basic Machine Sewing class or other beginner class. Conquer the mysteries of commercial patterns! Learn to lay out, cut, and sew a simple garment. Appropriate for everyone age 13 to grown-up. $75 covers it, but you will need to bring your own pattern from a suggested list.

SEWING FOR KIDS: SATURDAY START-UP
BEGINNERS WELCOME - Three-part class, 10 to 11 AM
For ages 8 to 13. Kids learn or review how to use a sewing machine, and make a variety of projects including a patchwork pillow, drawstring backpack, and a stuffed creature. More experienced students may repeat the class and pursue their own projects. Materials and machine supplied. $60 covers it!

FRIDAY AFTERNOON SEWING
BEGINNERS WELCOME - Five-part class, 4 to 5:30 pm
For ages 8 to 13. Kids learn or review how to use a sewing machine, and make a variety of projects from simple to more challenging. More experienced students may repeat the class and pursue their own projects. Materials and machine supplied. $100 covers it!

FRIDAY NIGHT SEWING CLUB
FOR SEWGREEN KIDS & TEENS - Most Fridays, 6 to 8 pm
Open Sew for anyone age 8 to teen who has been to a SewGreen class or camp, or who has been an apprentice or SewGreen worker. Bring your own project or learn a new one from us. Membership is just $50 per semester. You can join anytime. Pre-register or register on any club night. Ask us about scholarships. For more information, contact Wendy at coord@sewgreen.org.
